There are more than 1700 species of mosquitoes are now
recognized, some are of the non-biting forms, the female feed on
the blood of humans, Mammals and Poultry. The female has an
elongate piercing and sucking mouth parts, the male does not have
this, the mosquito breeds in stagnant water and breeding continues
through out the year to produce generations.
The female lays 250-400 eggs which float on water, the larvae lie
just beneath the surface of water, they feed on algae and other
smaller plants and animal life, the next is the pupae stage and
after
the Adult on emergence seeks a host. The life cycle is completed about
two weeks. The male do not suck blood, they live on plant juice,
nectar and fluids, the female inflict painful bites and also feed on
blood. They act as vectors of human disease carrying Malaria,
filariasis, Yellow fever etc. The chemical used are approved by the
Central Insecticide Board, Malaria Control Board, ISI, World Health
Organization (WHO).
